How do you create a unified company culture with different people and group?

Today, we’re talking about creating a great unified company culture when you have a diverse group of people.

The key to this is really balance.

Two areas of balance:
1. Common values
2. Diverse roles and personalities of a group

That is what you need to balance.

First, let me tell you about the “”Unifying Structure””.

The Unifying Structure

The unifying structure is really around the core values of your company culture.

I highly recommend it to my clients, and on top of that, a higher purpose, for example a North Star.

These are things that no matter who you are, aligns you to a common vision with the North Star, and a common way to behave and act in terms of core values.

Now once you have that set, then what you do is you celebrate the diversity that you have.

Celebrating Diversity

Because even in a basic company, you’re going to have different types of roles and personalities.

You’re going to have sales and you’re going to have marketing.

And sometimes those two don’t get along for certain reasons because that’s the nature of what they do.

Or you’re going to have finance!

Where that also is the case, you know finance will be monitoring the cash flow, and so there may not they may not be okay with a certain campaign or project because of its budget.

But that’s the natural diversity, that’s required.

Sharing Common Values

In fact I’d go as far as to say, the future requires even more diversity within an entity, because of the speed of change.

And without diversity you cannot adapt fast enough.

So really then, on the diverse side, take for example, the opportunity where you can have each department represent or have them speak to how they see the common core values or the North Star.

And have them translate it into their view to share as part of the view of the culture and celebrate it, rather than to separate those views.

So celebrate each one of the different views as it aligns with the core values and the North Star.
